Symptoms
The system fails to send out notification emails such as reminders and new appointments, as well as schedule notifications for service providers.
This problem is associated with the Universal Office Backup Service failing to start or being stopped. This service is responsible for the scheduled Universal Office data backup and sending out email notifications. When the service is stopped, these processes cannot proceed.
Cause
The most common cause of the problem is that the name of the server computer has been changed. However, the issue can also appear when the server name exceeds the required maximum of 14 characters. In that case, you will have to shorten the server name and follow the steps described below.
Resolution
On the server computer, perform the following steps.
Step 1: Delete BackupSchedule.xml
- Go to C:\Program Files\Antibex\Universal CPR
- Locate and delete the BackupSchedule.xml file
- Launch BackupManager and set the schedule
Step 2: Restart the Universal Office Backup Service
- Open Task Manager and navigate to the Services tab:
Use Ctrl+Alt+Del shortcut and select Task Manager, then select the Services tab
Note: For Windows 8 or later, click More details when the Task Manager opens - Under the Services tab, locate and right-click the Universal Office Backup Service, then select Restart
Tip: An alternative to the steps described above is uninstalling and reinstalling Universal Office from scratch on the server computer. Note that this does not require reinstalling the Microsoft SQL.
Important: If the problem persists on a server that has two or more Universal Office databases (one for each facility location), simply open the eBroadcast app for every facility whose database resides on the server and then close it. The issue may persist when the eBroadcast module was never configured for at least one of the facilities with database residing on the server. When you open eBroadcast, the system creates required columns in the EM_broadcast table in order to send the email notifications.
